Description:
|
This
painting comes from Donald's "Plants Paintings
Series" that Donald painted between 1944 and 1978
and features several white and red tulips growing in
a red ceramic bowl. Donald was also a talented potter
so chances are that he also made the red bowl that the
tulips sit in.
Dr.
DM Flather was both a talented scientist and accomplished
botanist with a keen interest in the natural world including
trees, plants and flowers. This bright still life floral
painting features bright white and red tulip blossoms.
Donald
kept a very active greenhouse at his Kerrisdale, Vancouver
home on East Boulevard and was one of the original World
War II "Victory Garden" creators in the 1940's
where he tended a second garden next to the railway
tracks across the road from his home on the Boulevard.
Donald
even tunneled underneath the road to run a water line
to keep not only his, but his neighbour's Victory Gardens
watered.
